Phil Hughes, who was scheduled for a minor league rehab assignment later this week will be evaluated by a team physician tomorrow following an unsuccessful bullpen session where his arm felt dead after only 10 or 15 pitches. He stated that it felt like he had thrown 110 or 115, not 10 or 15.
This is definitely not good news for the Yanks and it will interesting to see if there is anything structurally wrong with the arm. On the bright side, Garcia is pitching like the dominant righty he was several years ago, not allowing a run in his 2 starts this season. Colon also pitched extremely well in his first start of the season. For now, the starting staff is hanging in there but it would definitely be an asset to have Hughes as another option should Nova continue to struggle or if one of the veterans falters.
