Commentary:
It took me almost a month but I am finally back on a normal schedule and here is commentary on last night's west coast battle to start off the next month of the Yankees season.
Coming off a dominant, 4 hit shut-out by Colon the day before, Freddy Garcia looked to continue the trend but the story last night was the persistent offense, scoring runs in 5 of 9 innings. Granderson began the game with a 2-run HR, scoring Jeter who as a ~.480 on base percentage in the first inning of games this season. The Grandyman would follow up his 2-run shot with a 2-run double in the 4th. The rest of the offense also had a great afternoon, producing 12 hits. The top 4 in the line up combined to go 9 for 17 with 7 RBIs.
Freddy Garcia gave the Yanks what they needed, allowing just 3 runs over over 7 innings and saving the Yanks bullpen which now has had a nice break after Freddy's performance and Colon's shut out. Ayala and Pendleton close out the game in the 8th and 9th, allowing just 1 walk combined.
Grades:
Offense: A+ A persistent attack highlighted by Granderson's hot-hitting.
Starting Pitching: B+ 3 runs over 7 innings and 5 strikeouts by Garcia.
Bullpen: A Only one walk allowed in two innings.
Today's series finale against the As is currently ongoing and I will have a blog post about that either later tonight or tomorrow. In addition, I will have my May Review for the Yankees out tomorrow along with the first weather forecast in what seems like forever for the Friday game as the Yanks head to Anaheim to face the Angels.
