Yanks Offense Comes Alive in Sweep of Rangers

vs. Rangers (Wednesday, June 15th; Holland vs. Nova)  Yankees Win 12-4

Offense:  For the second consecutive night, the New York offense exploded for 12 runs.  Tonight's barrage leaned more on the home run than Tuesday night with 5 long balls including 2 by Teixiera from opposite sides of the plate.  Nunez and Pena also contributed home runs--on the same night, yes it can happen.

Starting Pitching:  B-  Nova bent but never broke, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits in 5.2 innings.  Despite Nova's success this season, he has failed to consistently deliver strong outings.

Bullpen:   A  Another strong performance from the completely rebuilt bullpen.  Ayala, Wade, and Marquez all contributed strong innings to shut down the Rangers who have struggled to score runs in this series.  All three pitchers were virtually unknown at the beginning of the year but may be key to a post season run due to the heavily injured bullpen.

vs. Rangers (Thursday, June 16th; Wilson vs. Gordon)  Yankees Win 3-2

Offense:  B-  After consistent offense in the past few games, New York struggled with men in scoring position (2-11) and squandered an opportunity to win the game in the 9th with the bases loaded and one out.  In the end though, Gardner came through with the game winning single, scoring Granderson in the 12th.  3 double plays didn't help.

Starting Pitching:  B  He didn't overpower anyone but Brian Gordon did a nice job in his first ever big league start.  He lasted 5.2 innings and only allowed 2 runs but did walk 3 despite great control at AAA.

Bullpen:  A+  Allowing 2 hits and 1 walk over 5.2 innings, the bullpen did a masterful job.
