Swisher's Long Ball Helps Yanks Sweep Oakland

Commentary:

For the third straight game, the Yanks offense came out firing early with an RBI double by A-Rod in the first inning that plated Derek Jeter.  The big blow came in the 4th inning when the embattled Nick Swisher hit a 3-run HR to left field.  Swisher is now hitting .215 but at least he continues to produce from the right side of the plate.  The rest of the game saw no New York scoring despite several opportunities in later innings.  Going 2-9 w/RISP didn't help matters later in the game but New York scored enough runs to win the game and supported winning pitcher AJ Burnett.

Burnett tossed 7 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on only 3 hits, walked 3 and struck out 5.  It didn't look good early for AJ who got 2 quick outs in the first before allowing a 2 run long ball to Willingham, giving up the 1-run lead A-Rod had staked him to in the top of the inning.  Burnett settled down from there, and cruised through the later innings.  Chamberlain pitched a scoreless 8th due in large part to a line drive double play following 2 hits.  Mariano Rivera picked up a much needed road save, his first save since May 21st and 14th of the year.
