Yankees Win Another Interleague Series

It was a weekend of celebration in the Bronx as players and managers of years past returned to the Stadium with the annual Old Timers Day.  Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, and Daryl Strawberry had RBIs in the yearly contest and Gene Monahan (long time Yanks trainer) was honored due to his retirement this year.  The current team of Yankees made the weekend memorable as well taking 2 of 3 from the Rockies, making them 4-0 in interleague series this season.

Despite losing the game on Friday night 4-2, New York rebounded with 8 runs and 15 hits on Saturday and 6 runs on Sunday.  A well rounded offensive attack was key to both wins over the weekend as Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher continued their recent hot-hitting.  Gardner also contributed 2 stolen bases and a perfect bunt single.

vs. Rockies (Friday, June 24th; Jimenez vs. Burnett)  Rockies Win 4-2

Offense:  C+  A bland offensive night who couldn't get anything after the first three innings.  New York wasted a key opportunity in the first inning when Cano hit a rocket to second which was caught and A-Rod was caught meandering too far off second base, allowing the double play.  Jimenez buckled down as the game progressed, lasting 7 innings and striking out 7.

Starting Pitching:  C+  6.1 innings pitched by Burnett giving up 4 runs.  He was wild with 5 walks but did strike out 5 as well.  Burnett struggled with his command all night and if the Yanks had won, it wouldn't have looked as poor.

Bullpen:  A  The bullpen continues to be a strength for New York.  Ayala and Logan each pitched an inning and a third, allowing no runs.

vs.  Rockies (Saturday, June 25th; Cook vs. Sabathia)  Yankees Win 8-3

Offense:  A  Posada was 3-4 with an RBI and Gardner had a perfect bunt single to lead off the game.  The offensive attack continued throughout the game with Teixiera capping it off with a 2 run HR in the 8th.

Starting Pitching:  A  8 IP, 7 hits, 1 ER and 9 Ks from CC who turned in another fantastic outing and was the first pitcher to 10 wins this season.

Bullpen:  D+  Buddy Carlyle allowed 2 runs the 9th.

vs. Rockies (Sunday, June 26th; Nicasio vs. Nova)  Yankees Win 6-4

Offense:  A-  Despite a perfect game through 4 innings, Nicasio couldn't hold the lead, giving up back to back runs to Swisher and Posada in the 5th.  The offense continued to press on in the later innings with Teixiera capping it off again with a solo home run in the 8th.

Starting Pitching:  B-  Nova was beat three times on solo home runs but pitched well otherwise.

Bullpen:  A+  Once again, the bullpen was phenomenal.
